Sankranthi Activities Saved 40 Families from Big Fire Tragedy

An unfortunate fire accident on Monday evening in Sarlanka village of Kakinada district in Andhra Pradesh has destroyed around 40 houses belonging to tribal families. Luckily, no casualties or injuries were reported as most of the people went out ahead of Sankranti festivities. But, the tragedy has left many families homeless.

As per preliminary reports, a sudden blaze erupted on Monday and rapidly spread all over the village. Residents were quick to react and vacated the houses in no time which ensured that there is no loss of lives even though the village is thickly populated. All 40 thatched houses were gutted in the inferno and reduced to ashes, resulting loss of properties.

As thatched houses were made of grass and reeds, the blaze spread out even before firefighters reached the spot. Despite efforts to reduce the impact of the accident, the fire has engulfed the entire village, making it difficult for the rescue teams to bring it under control.

While it was initially pointed that a possible gas leak might have triggered the fire, preliminary reports suggest that it must have occurred due to an electric short circuit at the house of a visually impaired person in the village.

As the village falls under Prathipadu constituency in Kakinada district, TDP MLA Varupula Satya Prabha reached the village immediately and offered moral support to the victims. She assured that the government will compensate for the financial loss.
