Tech billionaire and the founder of Zoho, Sreedhar Vembu is one of the most influential and successful entrepreneurs in the world. But he is currently in the news for a personal reason, and it has something to do with his divorce proceedings, which are indicating that this could be one of the costliest divorce settlements in the world.
Recent reports confirm a California court ordered Sridhar Vembu to post a $1.7B bond in his 2021 divorce case to protect assets, amid allegations of non-transparency. However, his counsel calls the order invalid, says it’s on appeal, and cannot be complied with.
While there is no official confirmation on the final alimony amount agreed upon by both parties, it is understood in principle that Sreedhar may have to pay up to ₹15,000 crore. This is the amount being demanded by his ex-wife, Pramila Srinivasan, while Sreedhar’s legal team is arguing for a lower figure.
Public details from court filings indicate Pramila Srinivasan alleges Sridhar Vembu abandoned her and their autistic son in 2020 when he moved to India, and secretly transferred Zoho assets to family to evade California’s property laws.
As of now, it appears that this could be one of the costliest divorce settlements in the world, and certainly the costliest divorce for an Indian tech individual. But a marking on the official number could be out only in the near future when the court settles the case.
