Nagarjuna in his decades of long career experimented with many different genre films and Wild Dog is going to be another unique film. Directed by Ashishor Solomon, the film made under Matinee Entertainment is up for release on April 2nd. Here are excerpts from interview with Nagarjuna:
How far trailer helped the film to generate buzz?
Definitely, trailer helped the film and Wild Dog title too helped to become popular. We took special care for trailer. As we all know, trailer is very important and it indeed creates an impression among audiences. We wanted to portray the content of the film through the trailer.
Why are you taking special care in promoting Wild Dog?
I generally promote every film of mine with same interest. But, the reason for doing extra promotions for this film is it deserves that kind of promotion. It’s a new age commercial film and a new attempt. I’m the only known face in the film and even director Ashishor Solomon is new, so I’m promoting vigorously. I took extra care and spent good time.
You’ve worked with 40 new directors, how do you feel?
There will be some anxiousness, when working with new directors. But, I’m the kind of person who looks for different ideas and likes to work with newcomers. I too feel bored to do similar roles. I don’t like doing regular films, that’s why I give chance to new directors who approach me with different concepts. I faced flops sometimes and scored hits when I did experimental and different genre films. I strongly feel I’ve become a star because of young and talented directors and new concepts.
Will family audience watch this film?
When we made Shiva, due to excess violence, we thought ladies and families may not come to watch the film. But, the fact is women love characters with courage. Similarly, families will come to watch Wild Dog as well.
What’s your character and how special is this?
My character name in the film is ACP Vijay Varma. He is a very good father, good husband, and a very good team leader. He loves country and the reason he joins NIA is to serve the nation. His only aim is to catch terrorists. He never arrests them, but finishes them on spot. Interestingly, though he is very aggressive in nature, he takes permission from wife when goes out on a mission. He asks her, “I’m going out on a mission and I may not comeback alive. Are you okay with it?’
What was your reaction when Solomon narrated the story?
I told Solomon that if you don’t make it properly, it won’t work out. So, he did intense research for 3 to 4 months meeting different people. An army major who was part of the surgical strike was hired and he taught us on hand signals, how to handle gun and grenades for authenticity in scenes.
What is Vijay Varma’s target, does he find the solution for the problem?
ACP Vijay Varma’s target is to catch the terrorist behind the bomb blasts and bring him to India. It is to to tell the world that India is capable of doing this.
When will you do Pan India films?
We want to dub and release Wild Dog in Hindi. I didn’t think much about Pan India films.
What is your role in Brahmastra?
I don’t talk much about Brahmastra now. But my role is very powerful and the duration of my role is about half an hour. It’s a 3 part series and it’s one of the best roles in my career.
When will Bangarraju happen?
I’m particular about releasing Bangarraju for Sankranthi. If we won’t make it for Sankranthi in 2022, we will postpone it to 2023. It’s a completely entertainer.
Will Wild Dog become a trendsetter like Shiva?
We didn’t think Shiva will become a trendsetter. Few though re-recording would be waste of money for the film at that time. We can’t predict that a film will become a trend setter. Nobody knew Arjun Reddy would become a trend setter too. There will be many reasons for a film to become a hit or a trendsetter.
What will you tell your fans about Wild Dog?
It’s a new commercial film. Fans will feel proud of it.
