The President of United States, Donald Trump appears to made it a mission to irk the Indian community that has been staying in the United States. Almost every week, we have some sort of update from Trump that would directly affect the Indian and also the international population.
The Trump administration is now contemplating something of this sort as they have backed a legislation which would mandate a taxation slab for outbound transactions from the United States. This would directly affect the NRI population in the US who had been regularly sending money to their families in India.
If this legislation gets approved on July 4, then there could be an imposition of 5% tax on international transactions happening outbound of United States.
For instance, if a resident of United States has to send ₹1 lakh to any of their beneficiaries in India, then they will have to pay 5% tax which roughly converts to ₹5000.
The Republican Party introduced this “Big Beautiful Bill” in the house and is confident of the implementation which could possibly come to effect from July 4, if it is approved.
Considering the fact that the majority of the NRI population in the United States have the habit of sending money to their near and dear ones in India, this new taxation slab could affect them. While the wealthy population might not find this too much, the hardworking student population who indulge in part time jobs and make measly money might find this brutal.
