After the bitter breakup with tech billionaire Elon Musk, US President Donald Trump declared that their relationship is over. The epic fallout came after Musk publicly criticized the President’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’.
SpaceX co-founder Musk then called the Americans to ‘Kill the Bill’. Though Trump said he has no immediate plans to speak with Musk, the US President hinted he was open to a conversation. While speaking to reporters, he said: “If I were him, I would want to speak to me”.
When the reporters asked him if he was expecting a phone call from the Tesla chief, Trump said: “Ummm, I haven’t really thought about it actually. I would imagine he wants to speak to me. Maybe he’s already called. You’d have to ask him. Ask him if he’s already called. But I’d have no problems with it.” These comments indicate that Trump expects a patch-up with his Musk, his former ally.
Differences between Trump and Musk reached a peak after Musk criticised the Republican-backed tax and spending bill, after he was appointed as the chief of Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Since the epic fallout, Musk did not address Trump directly but he continued to slam the legislation.
Despite being criticized by Musk about the Big, Beautiful Bill, Trump initially remained silent. Later, he told reporters aboard Air Force One that he was ‘very disappointed’ with the billionaire entrepreneur.
At one moment, Musk even said that Trump would have lost the 2024 Presidential polls without his backing and even floated the idea of impeachment. He even vowed to reduce political funding to those who betrayed the Americans. Reports said that the tech mogul spent nearly USD 300 million on Trump’s campaign during the last polls.
After the verbal war, Trump suggested that his administration would snap ties with Musk’s companies, including SpaceX and Starlink. Reacting to this, Musk pointed at withdrawing SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft from NASA mission, that would jeopardise the US space programme. However, he later withdrew the threat. There is buzz that Trump is ready to open a dialogue with Musk as he fears the latter would pull financial support to the Republics.
