Three Hindu Students Beaten Up in UK, What Happened?

Three British Hindu men were beaten up after they replied that they were Indian and Sri Lankan on being questioned about their ethnicity at a London Park. The three Hindu men were attacked by three older men, who reportedly appeared to be from the Muslim community.

Two of those attacked suffered blows to their head and shifted to Northwick Park Hospital in an unconscious state. The Hindu men were left with cuts and bruises and two have been left with facial fractures. The issue was raised by Tory MP Bob Blackman in the House of Commons, and he termed it as ‘religious hatred’.

The sister of one of the attacked Hindus told a prominent English daily that her brother, aged 20 years, is a British Indian Gujarati Hindu and a first-year student of radiography. On May 30, he, along with two of his friends, went to play cricket at Harrow recreation Ground. His friends are British Hindus of Sri Lankan descent, aged 20 and 21.

At 6 pm on that day, the trio went to a shop, walking past a cafe where a group of around eight people, seemingly belonging to a Muslim family, as they were wearing hijabs. The family made a sign to a group of friends playing cricket and one of the men outside the cafe got up and confronted the three Hindu men, asking them why they were looking at his family.

Though the trio told them that they did not look at the family but at some others playing cricket, they did not believe in them. However, this led to an altercation between the two groups and the other group started beating the Hindus. The three men were beaten up and even kicked until the British Indian and his friend became unconscious.

The sister of one of the attacked said that her brother wore a sacred thread from a mandir while one of the attackers was wearing a Moroccan football T-shirt with Number 2 and the word ‘Hakimi’, she told the English daily. Following the attack, two of them were hospitalized and their family members expressed concern over the attack and demanded a comprehensive inquiry.

Meanwhile, there are reports that the police are continuing their inquiry but have not arrested any person in connection with the case.
