The volume of the Indian population that has been traveling to the United Kingdom for better employment opportunities has been on a constant rise. In fact, UK has become the next best destination for Indians after the United States.
However, there has also been a spike in the illegal immigration into the UK and the same was addressed by the Prime Minister of UK, Keir Starmer. He proposed a new digital ID card to curb employment for illegal immigration population.
Keir Starmer’s proposal for a “Brit Card” digital ID, announced on September 26, 2025, aims to curb illegal migration by enforcing work eligibility checks. This new system allows employers to verify passport-holding citizens and traceable information. Without a digital ID, no one can get a job in the UK henceforth.
However, this ambitious plan faces widespread opposition, including from former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and Reform UK’s Nigel Farage, due to privacy concerns and doubts about its impact.
At a time when the U.S. is already tightening the employment opportunities under the Trump administration, including H-1B rules and part time jobs, this new resolution by the UK government could be another game changer. But this new legislation only affects illegal population and not the rightly immigrated people.
