An Indian-origin woman working as a teacher assistant at a elementary school in North Carolina has been arrested after allegedly cutting her husband with a knife, following discord over household chores. The woman, Chandraprabha Singh (44), was accused of “unlawfully, willfully and feloniously” injuring her husband’s neck on October 12. The incident occurred at their apartment in the Ballantyne area of Charlotte, according to reports.
Singh works as a teacher assistant for grades K-3 at Endhaven Elementary School, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. She claimed that the injury was accidental. She said she was making breakfast when her husband asked if he could help.
Upset about the unclean house, she claimed that the she turned around with a knife in her hand, which led to the cut injury on her husband’s neck. However, her husband, Arvind Singh, said that she “purposely attacked him with the knife” out of frustration over cleaning the house. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg police department confirmed that the assault did not occur on school property.
On October 12, police arrived at the scene shortly after 10.49 am and by that time, Arvind Singh was shifted to the hospital with a serious neck injury.
Chandraprabha Singh was initially denied a bond by a magistrate but later had it set at $10,000 during a court appearance on October 13, where she was also assigned a public defender. Later, she was released under conditions that include wearing an electronic monitoring device and having no contact with her husband.
