Fact Check: US Embassy Attacked But Fake Visuals Go Viral

While the ongoing war between Iran and Israel-US continues to escalate with new explosions taking place frequently in several parts of Middle East, some unverified visuals are also being spread by netizens and media portals in the heat of the moment without cross checking. 

Since today, global media is abuzz with the news that US embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia was attacked by a couple of Iranian drones, as a retaliatory strike on Gulf countries supporting USA and Israel. This attack has reportedly considerable damage to the building. However, no casualties reportedly took place due to this attack. 

As per an official spokesperson for Saudi Arabia’s defence ministry, it is confirmed that the diplomatic mission in Riyadh had been targeted, but resulted in only a limited fire and minor material damage to the building. 

However, several international media portals and social media handles started publishing a month old video of a collision in Riyadh due which caused a massive fire on a highway. The purported video which dates back to February 2026 is being widely shared as the latest visuals from US Embassy. 

When cross checked with official reports, the video turned out to be fake and it is nowhere near to US Embassy in Riyadh. It is confirmed that no large scale damage took place as being projected on social media and shared by news agencies. 

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump reacted on the attacked. He warned that people will find out soon what the retaliation will be to an attack on the US embassy in Riyadh. 

Speaking to NewsNation in an interview cited by a reporter on X, Trump said, “You’ll find out soon what the retaliation will be,” referring both to the embassy strike and to the deaths of US military personnel in the ongoing confrontation with Iran.
