Are NRI Families Losing Peace in the US?

Indian immigrants in the US seem to be living under mounting pressure of constant vigilance and uncertainty. Despite living for nearly a decade in New York, an Indian-origin man is planning to move back to the country to raise their kid in a peaceful and green environment.

In a post on Reddit, the Indian man from Mumbai said his family lived in New York for several years and is now thinking of returning to India. For the last 17 years, he and his family lived in various countries, including the US, but now, he revealed his plans to move to Pune for more ‘me time’ as he feels it could rejuvenate him for the next step in his career.

He said that his life in the US is going well and stable yet, he wants to take a small break and take a decision about his future as he feels working in the foreign country forever might not be that beneficial.

The NRI said he was considering providing good education, sports facilities and a healthy social and cultural environment to his three-year-old son in India. Many things associated with a high standard lifestyle in the foreign country like a well-paying job, are not having much significance at this moment in their life.

The Mumbai man revealed he was viewing Koregaon Park and Kalyani Nagar, in the suburbs of Pune, to buy a new flat for Rs 3-4 crore. As these areas are more cosmopolitan, he felt it would be easy for his wife, hailing from New York, to live as she can communicate only in English.

The Indian family could have taken this decision due to the stress and pressures they were facing. Does this decision reflect a sense of insecurity among Indians living in a foreign land, even when they are able to live a comfortable life?
