Just over a year into power, US president Donald Trump’s administration seems to be facing the ire from the general public as third round of protests erupted all over the country again over government policies, rising cost of living and the ongoing war with Iran.
The campaign termed as ‘No Kings’ protests witnessed millions of residents in different cities taking to the streets and rallying all the way to major landmarks to express deep discontent through mass demonstrations against the policies imposed by US President Donald Trump, including the war in Iran, federal immigration enforcement and the rising cost of living ever since he took over in January last year.
This is the third time in the last one year that ‘No Kings’ protests are taking place in cities like New York, Washington, and Los Angeles. Protestors held up effigies of Trump, Vice President JD Vance and other officials in the administration, demanding for their immediate expulsion and arrest.
The last No Kings rally in October drew crowds of nearly seven million people nationally. Now, the number of protesters is likely to increase due to the growing notion that Trump is behaving like a dictator with arbitrary powers. Critics have already warned that some of the moves by his administration are unconstitutional and a threat to American democracy.
Crowds have gathered both in big cities and small towns as a mark of dissent against the current government. The public animosity is slowly gaining momentum as rallies are kicking off in Boston, Massachusetts, Nashville, Tennessee, and Houston, Texas. More big city protests are expected to kick off throughout the weekend and turn into a full blown public anger.
What is more shocking to Trump and his administration is that these protests are not limited to USA as American expats abroad are also joining the cause and mobilising the public in several countries of Europe. Crowds have formed in Paris, London and Lisbon, where many hold signs calling the president a “fascist” and a “war criminal”, as well as calling for his impeachment and removal from office.
Meanwhile, The White House and Republican leadership brushed aside the No Kings day events by labelling them as “Trump Derangement Therapy Sessions” and “Hate America Rallies”. However, Trump is yet to respond on the latest round of protests.
