Recently, a renowned South Indian restaurant owner was arrested in USA for allegedly threatening his wife over a marital discord and later chasing her in his car. Now, a Gujarati man has reportedly been arrested after a misfire which left her wife with critical injuries.
Going into the reports, Soniya Gajera was the victim who was severely injured after an accidental gunshot from her husband’s rifle during a scuffle with a store manager when the couple went to a convenience store in Bossier City on April 4th for purchasing some household items. As Soniya was at a close proximity to her husband, the bullet has ripped through her jaws and damaged her teeth and lower lips.
While the preliminary investigation revealed that it was an accidental firing, Soniya’s husband Sharad Gajera was arrested a few days ago for charges of illegal use of weapon after surrendering it to the authorities following the issuance of a warrant. Further inquiries are going on to ascertain the cause of this unfortunate accident.
Soniya is currently in intensive care as she battles for life because doctors stated that multiple surgeries are needed to be performed for jaw and facial reconstruction including dental implants as the bullet caused brutal injury to her face. Even with these treatments, her road to recovery is said to be uncertain.
She is currently dependent on assisted breathing and artificial nutritional intake in the hospital. Her complete treatment is likely to cost close to 2 Crores given that medical expenses are quite exorbitant in USA.
Meanwhile, members of the community have initiated a crowdfunding campaign to support her treatment. The fundraiser has set a target of $2,00,000 and recounts her struggles and resilience.
