USA: Telugu Student Commits Suicide Over Financial Stress

Life in abroad is not at all rosy and optimistic for Indians as it was earlier due to the changing immigration rules and shrinking job opportunities. Especially in USA, thousands of Indian students and job holders are facing uncertainty after Donald Trump introduced stricter norms. Due to lack of job opportunities, some students are taking extreme steps out of depression and stress.

In a heart wrenching tragedy to report, a Telugu student committed suicide in USA due to overwhelming financial distress caused in the backdrop of uncertain future amid ongoing job crisis.

The victim is identified as 26 year old Chandu, who came to USA a few years ago to pursue Master’s degree. He studied at Depaul University in Chicago and was desperate to secure a job on expiry of his OPT.

Unable to cope up with the pressure of finding a full time job to bail out his financial difficulties, Chandu committed suicide and took his life. The news has sent his family and friends in a state of shock and despair. Chandu is said to be a very kind and hard working individual with big dreams and high ambitious.

Friends and other fellow members of Indian community are now making efforts to send his body back to India for final rites.

Every year, lakhs of Indian students move to USA in search of a dream future to settle well after completing their higher education. As the cost of education is too expensive, most of them take student loans for Masters education.

The burden to clear the loans back at home and the rising burden to meet the ends every month is putting many of these students in acute depression, forcing them to take extreme steps.
