Despite the fact that there is zero tolerance for a wrongdoing in foreign countries, Few Indian origin individuals continue to involve in heinous crimes and bring shame to the community without any guilt. In recent times, the incidence of such cases in countries like USA and UK is on the higher side.
In another similar incident, an Indian-origin man named Gagandeep Singh has been sentenced to 34 years in prison after being found guilty of kidnapping, torturing, and raping a 24-year-old woman in the UK.
The incident took place in June 2024 after the victim refused an unusual request to transport a suitcase containing unidentified items from Thailand to the United Kingdom. Upon her arrival at Birmingham Airport, she was forced into a vehicle by masked men and driven to a property in Hanwell, West London.
She was held captive, physically assaulted, tortured, burnt, and raped twice by the accused. She was eventually released by her captors under severe threats intended to keep her from reporting the crimes.
Traumatized and fearing for the safety of her family, the victim was initially hesitant to file a police complaint. However, after she opened up to her mother about the assualt. Her mother filed a third-party report with the Metropolitan Police and preserved the victim’s clothing as primary evidence for the crime.
Forensic analysis of the preserved clothing successfully matched with that of Singh’s DNA and finally led to his arrest in February this year. He was found guilty of two counts of rape, false imprisonment, causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and kidnapping.
Gagandeep Singh will now need to serve the mandatory 2/3 rd period of custodial term in prison before getting eligible for parole as per UK laws. He is likely to be deported back to India after serving his punishment period.
