There is little debate that the H-1B visa program is one of the most widely used employment-based immigration pathways in the United States. A large number of skilled professionals, including many from India, rely on the program for work opportunities in the country.
However, there have been several complaints about the gross misusage of this program by employers and employees in the US. The authorities have now swarmed to action as Vice president J D Vance said the Trump administration has launched a full scale crackdown on the same.
In his media brief today, the US vice president Vance stated “Today, I’m proud to announce United States, Department of labour has started dozens of subpoenas and investigations into foreign fraudsters who are trying to take advantage of the H-1B visa program.”
This was followed by another strong comment from the vice president, as he said American Jobs ought to go to American Workers and not foreign fraudsters and the Department of Labor is fighting back against it.
This is a part of the ongoing narrative amongst Americans, where they are of the strong opinion that the H1B visa program is taking away American jobs and giving them away to immigrants, mainly Indians. It appears that the Trump government has taken the public consensus and has started to act according.
This could mean very bad news to a small section of the Indian population who have been misusing this program though fabricated documentation and false claims.
