US President Donald Trump is facing fresh criticism after his company introduced a paid service linked to his Truth Social account.
The new service gives companies and financial firms faster access to Trump’s social media posts. Since many of his posts can influence stock markets, oil prices and global events, several businesses are reportedly interested in getting updates before everyone else.
According to reports, the premium service could cost up to $100,000 a month.
The move has sparked a political debate in the US. Critics say a sitting President should not earn money from a service that gives paying customers quicker access to posts that could affect financial markets. Some lawmakers have even asked regulators to examine whether the service gives an unfair advantage to big investors.
Trump’s company, however, has denied any wrongdoing. It says the service only delivers public posts faster and does not provide any private or confidential information. The company also claims the criticism is politically motivated.
The issue has now become a major talking point in the US. Supporters say it is simply a business service built around public information. Critics argue that a President’s public statements should not become a premium product for those willing to pay.
Whether the controversy leads to any legal action remains to be seen, but the debate over Trump’s latest business move is growing rapidly.
