Donald Trump has made a major promise to American voters ahead of the upcoming midterm elections. Speaking at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas, Trump announced a $5,000 dividend for every adult US citizen if Republicans win both the House and Senate.
Trump presented the proposal as a reward for what he described as America’s strong economic performance under his leadership. He said the payment would be similar to a company distributing cash to its shareholders.
The former president said the plan would apply to every adult citizen in the country. He also made it clear that there would be one major condition attached to the proposed payment.
According to Trump, the $5,000 dividend would have to be spent within the United States. He described it as a way of giving Americans a direct benefit from the country’s economic success.
Trump also linked the promise directly to the November midterm results. He told supporters that if Republicans win both chambers of Congress, Americans would get the proposed $5,000 payment.
The announcement received a strong response from the crowd at the Dallas convention. Trump even referred to the proposal as the “Trump dividend” while urging voters to support Republican candidates.
However, several details about the proposal are still unclear. There has been no clear explanation yet about how the payments would be funded or what legal and legislative steps would be needed to make the plan a reality.
