Houston Immigration Lawyer Arrested in Fraud Case

A Houston immigration lawyer has been arrested in an alleged fraud case.

The lawyer, Alla Nowowiejski, is 44 years old. According to U.S. authorities, she took money from clients who wanted help with work permits, work visas, or immigration status.

Officials say she did not submit some applications. In some cases, she allegedly submitted only part of the application. She is also accused of giving clients false papers and case numbers to make them believe their immigration cases were active.

The case numbers were allegedly connected to other people’s immigration cases, not her clients’ cases.
Nowowiejski has been charged with mail fraud and making false statements. If she is found guilty, she could face up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

The case is being investigated by U.S. government agencies, including Homeland Security and the U.S. Postal Service.
