Man Dies By Suicide After Killing Indian Woman In US

The shocking shooting of Indian origin woman Shalini Thakur in Sacramento, California, has taken a new turn with more details emerging about her final days. The 38 year old was shot dead outside a shopping centre earlier this week.

Shalini had reportedly been facing stalking and harassment from 22 year old Rohit Rohit for several months. Court records show that she had accused him of following her, tracking her with an Apple AirTag and even entering her home while she was sleeping.

Shalini had also obtained a restraining order against Rohit in May. However, authorities said the alleged harassment continued even after the order was issued. Her mother now believes that more could have been done to protect her daughter.

In a fresh emotional account, Shalini’s mother Sudesh Kumari revealed that she had spoken to her daughter shortly before the shooting. Shalini reportedly told her mother that she would call back in 15 minutes, but that call never came.

Meanwhile, the accused reportedly fled after the shooting and was later tracked down by deputies on Highway 50. Police found him dead inside his vehicle from what appeared to be a self inflicted gunshot wound.

The case has now also drawn attention from US immigration authorities. The Department of Homeland Security said Rohit was an Indian national who had entered the United States through Arizona in 2023 and was later released. The development has added another angle to the already shocking case.
