An Indian origin individual has been named on official fugitive wanted list by US authorities for allegedly committing a Medicare fraud worth 93 million dollars.
Going into the details, US federal authorities have issued an arrest warrant against Indian origin businessman Khadeer Khan Mohammed in connection with a financial fraud linked to genetic testing bills funded by the US government healthcare program.
The 46 year old businessman owned American Premier Labs LLC based in Richardson, Texas. Officials suspect he escaped to Hyderabad to hide from law enforcement agencies after charges got filed against him.
Between August 2023 and October 2024, Mohammed allegedly submitted fake genetic testing bills to the US government funded healthcare program. Reports show Medicare actually paid out around 65 million dollars on those fake claims.
In just one 10-day period in 2023, his Texas laboratory collected nearly 13 million dollars from government money. Investigators found out that the main scheme involved using identities of real doctors without their approval or knowledge.
Mohammed sent genetic test claims for patients who never saw those doctors or needed any testing at all. The doctors never ordered those tests and results was never used for treating any patient care.
Federal authorities are planning to use legal extradite options if local police confirms his exact hiding location inside Hyderabad city.
