The ruling party of Telangana, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has emerged as the richest regional party in India. TRS achieved this feat after receiving donation of Rs. 130.46 crore in 2019-20. This income constitutes 14.86% of the total income of all the regional parties in India.
The report is formed by a Delhi-based election watch body named Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). The income and expenditure of 42 regional parties have been analyzed in this report.
The ruling party of Maharashtra, Shiv Sena generated an income of Rs. 111.403 crores and secured the second position. Shiv Sena constitutes 12.69% of the total income of all the regional parties in the country.
Andhra Pradesh’s ruling party YSRCP received a donation of Rs. 92.739 crore and remained in the third position. It constitutes 10.56% of the total funds.
According to the report, TRS received Rs. 89.15 crore from ‘unknown’ or ‘undisclosed’ sources and Rs. 40.90 crores from individual entities.
These funds generally come from electoral bonds, electoral trust, individual party subscriptions, funders and a few other sources.
