Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is known for his enmity with Opposition leader and TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu. Jagan tried to show his prominence and one-upmanship by opposing and abolishing the policies adopted by the TDP government.
As part of it, the Jagan-led government introduced new sand and liquor policies and also launched the flagship programme, Navaratnalu.
On one hand, he said the YCP government is committed to the welfare of the poor but did away with the Anna canteens introduced under the TDP regime, even if these food kiosks were aimed at providing meals for a nominal price. The canteens displayed the portrait of former chief minister and TDP founder-president NTR.
Soon after assuming power, Jagan ordered for closure of the canteens in 2019 and the TDP protested against it. However, the canteens were not reopened even when other opposition parties also criticized the YCP government.
On Monday, the Anna canteen in Kadapa city was demolished by the municipal corporation late in the night to make way for the construction of a petrol refilling station.
Jagan marked his rule with the demolition of Praja Vedika and this should help us know that he is a man of destruction. He can never think of development. He had not developed the capital city, Amaravati, but only tried to destroy it, a TDP leader said.
