The differences between Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan are increasing by the day and they are in a combat mode.
The Governor is also addressing people’s problems by organizing public darbars and even travelling to various places to understand the ground realities through interaction with the people. In fact, she has increased involvement in public grievance redressal. She visited several flood-hit areas and distributed medicines to the affected and even ensured that medical camps were held in those places.
Recently, she had gone to Basar to know about the problems of IIIT students who had been on the warpath for the last few months. The IIIT-Basar students had been demanding appointment of a vice-chancellor, adequate faculty and improvement of hostel facilities. The students had also complained about the poor quality of food being served in the hostel which even led to hospitalization due to food poisoning.
The students had taken ill thrice due to food poisoning in the last couple of months but the CM had not taken any corrective measures to address their grievances.
In the wake of such a situation, the Governor plunged into action and visited the educational institution in Basar. In the past, she had said that she was not interested in her protocol and that she would respond to people’s problems.
She said that she would mount pressure on the government for resolving the students’ problems and even faulted the government for failing to give laptops to the students since 2017. During her visit, she also found that the hostels in IIIT-Basar were not being maintained properly. The Governor also said that she would visit other universities in Telangana soon.
By visiting various places where people have been facing problems, the Governor had made it public that there are differences between her and the CM. It is being said that KCR is venting out his anger against Prime Minister Narendra Modi by neglecting the Governor and her activities. He had been denying her protocol too and for this the government would be held responsible. There is no rule that the Governor should not visit disaster-hit places but the fact is that it is the government which has to take any action. A mere visit by the Governor without any action would be of no use and for the same reason, Governors usually do not get involved in redressal of public grievances.
However, Dr Tamilisai has been visiting places only due to the rivalry with the government. It has to be seen when the differences between the CM and the Governor would get resolved.
