Amaravati Sentiment Like A Beehive: RRR

YCP rebel MP Raghurama Krishnam Raju urged AP Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy not to go in a different path from others because it would not prove successful on all the occasions. The Narsapuram MP made these comments hinting at the state government’s decision to trifurcate the capital and shift the executive capital to Vizag. He said it was not fair on the part of the CM to think of shifting the capital just for some trivial reasons as the farmers who pooled their land for construction of the Capital would be at loss and the huge amount of money, estimated to be
Rs 52,000 crore, spent on construction of buildings and other infrastructure like roads and drainages, would go a waste. He urged the CM to keep in mind that it was all public money and that he is just a custodian of it.

Further, he also said that decentralisation of governance does not mean breaking the capital into pieces. Speaking to the mediapersons in New Delhi, the Narsapuram MP said that he received a phone call from an unknown person asking if the governance would be decentralised even at the mandal-level, like the components of the Taluk office being broken into pieces and the police station being set up in a different village, revenue inspector office at some other place and the tahsildar officer being shifted to a different station.

Comparing the Amaravati sentiment to a beehive, the MP said that one bee on a flower could warded off by flinging the hand but the same bees, when on a honeycomb, would sting one to death if provoked by any force. He suggested the CM to be aware of this fact and be a part of the growth trajectory that would be witnessed in Amaravati than pose hurdle in the process.

The MP also asked the CM about what had happened to the village volunteer system which had effectively controlled the spread of Covid-19 in the initial days. Now, AP stands second in the country with regard to the total number of Covid-19 cases, with Maharashtra being on the top of the list.

He also pointed out at the discrepancies in the number of tests done on Corona patients. He said that on one particular day, the AP government claimed to have done 21,75,070 tests while the list released by the Centre for the same day stated there was a difference of 8,65,600 tests. The MP asked which was the correct figure regarding the Covid-19 tests.

Referring to the increasing cases of Coronavirus, he said that the CM was not allowing the officials to completely focus on check the spread of the pandemic as he was in a hurry to shift the capital to Vizag from Amaravati. The TTD temple authorities said they would allow 12,000 devotees per day to have the darshan of Lord Balaji but not even 4,000 are turning up. The CM should understand the situation and focus on checking the spread of the pandemic, he suggested.

In the same tone, he also advised the AP government to think of rolling back the hike in liquor prices as it was leading to death of numerous alcoholics who were consuming sanitisers as they cannot afford the costly liquor in the state-run liquor outlets. Hiking the prices of some “never seen-never heard” brands of liquor brands exponentially would not de-addict alcoholics, he pointed out.
