Ever since the bifurcation of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh and the formation of Telangana in 2014, the role of the BJP-led union government in resolving the disputes between both the Telugu states has been quite minimal and passive. In fact, the BJP has even failed to fulfill its pre-election promise of granting Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh.
Now, top BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah has given a free advice to the chief ministers of AP and Telangana. Speaking on the sidelines of the 30th Southern Zonal Council meet at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala on Saturday, Amit Shah urged Andhra, Telangana governments to resolve all the pending issues mutually for the benefit of not only the people but also for the overall development of AP and Telangana.
Amit Shah cited the never ending Cauvery water dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and suggested AP and Telangana to find a joint solution to resolve the Krishna river water dispute. In the SZC meeting, a total of 26 issues were presented before Amit Shah for discussion. 17 issues of which 9 related to AP state reorganisation were reserved for further consideration.
At the SZC meet, AP Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath had presented several key issues before Amit Shah. An effective solution to resolve the long-pending issues related to AP bifurcation, centre’s support for early completion of Polavaram project and new railway zone at Vizag were the demands raised by the AP minister.
