‘They Killed My Father’, Who Are ‘They’ Sharmila?

After more than a decade of former Chief Minister late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s death, his daughter and YSRTP president Y.S. Sharmila made some sensational comments. She alleged that ‘they’ hatched a conspiracy and killed her father. Sharmila did not give any clarity about ‘them’.

YSR died in a chopper crash on a rainy day near Pavuralagutta in Kurnool district on September 2, 2009.

Sharmila was addressing a roadshow during her padayatra in erstwhile Mahabubnagar district. She said that there could be a threat to her life.

Soon after the death of YSR, there were rumours of Reliance representatives sketched the chopper crash. However, there was no strong evidence or a serious probe into the allegation even during that time.

Later, YSR’s son and AP Chief Minsiter Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy even chose Parimal Nathwani, a close associate of Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Group of Industries, as one of the four party nominees for the Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh.

If Reliance was behind the conspiracy, why did Jagan do a favour to Ambani?

Now, the big question is who are ‘they’? Whom is Sharmila pointing her fingers at?

Training her guns at KCR loyalist and minister Niranjan Reddy, she said that he does not have any respect towards women. Niranjan Reddy called me ‘maradalu’. Should I bear with the disrespect, she asked and said that no woman in Telangana would accept that remark from a man. Any man making that remark would definitely be hit with the footwear, she said.

Further, Sharmila said that she had approached the police to file a complaint against the minister’s remark but that a case was not filed. If that is the case, the TRS government should be able to declare that cases would not be registered against ministers, she said.

The YSRTP president said that it was like Taliban rule in Telangana. Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao knows only one thing – to suppress the opposition against him. If anybody questions him, they would get arrested, she said and threw down the gauntlet to KCR to get her arrested if he has the guts. It would be better if the police department gets merged with the TRS party, she suggested and lamented that there was no democracy in Telangana.
