Kandukuru Stampede: A Failure Of ‘Political’ System!

The death of eight people during TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu’s roadshow at Kandukuru in Nellore district points has led to a blame game between the government and the opposition party.

The YCP leaders alleged that the TDP had deliberately chosen a congested place to hold the roadshow as it would help project that there has been a huge crowd to listen to Naidu’s speech. The TDP cadre is boasting that the public is now wanting Naidu to be the CM and accordingly, planned to show that he has huge public support.

The crowd was not heavy but the TDP wanted to amplify the numbers in the videos and hence, picked a narrow lane for the show of strength, said the YCP leaders.

The tragedy could have been avoided if the TDP selected some wider area like a ground to hold the party programme, they said.

Meanwhile, the TDP leaders said that it was the mismanagement of the police in controlling the crowd. If it was a meeting by Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the party cadre could have mobilized public in lakhs and the police would also have managed to keep the mob under control, the TDP men said.

It is because Naidu is holding the public meeting, the police did not interfere and left the TDP men to handle the situation. Had the police involved in managing the crowd, the deaths could have been averted, they felt.

Setting the blames aside, it could have been better if both the government and the opposition parties could work in co-ordination to ensure the welfare of the people.
