Former minister Vatti Vasanth Kumar passed away. He breathed his last today while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Visakhapatnam. Vatti had been unwell for a while. He was 70-year-old. Vatti hailed from Poondla of West Godavari district. His family members are bringing his mortal remains to his native place.
Vatti won as MLA in 2004 and 2009 from Unguturu Assembly constituency. He became minister in 2009 from YSR’s cabinet. He served as Rural Development minister in YS Rajasekhar Reddy, Rosaiah’s cabinet. He was a Tourism minister in Kiran Kumar Reddy’s cabinet. He was a strong leader in the Kapu community. He had a hold on West Godavari district politics. During YSR’s tenure, Vatti had a grip on Godavari districts and neighbouring districts.
However, Vatti had been staying inactive in politics after the 2014 elections. He had quit the Congress Party and stayed away from politics. Vatti was earlier in news when he had met Pawan Kalyan. There was news that Vatti could join Janasena Party. However, Vatti later clarified that he had met Pawan Kalyan out of respect and there were no political reasons.
