What kind of order is this? SC Serious!

The Supreme Court faulted the Telangana High Court for issuing interim stay on the arrest of Kadapa MP Y.S. Avinash Reddy in connection with the murder of his uncle and former minister Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy. The apex court described the court order as atrocious and unacceptable.

The SC bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha expressed disapproval over the Telangana High Court order and said “What kind of order is this? We stay this order completely,” the CJI said reportedly.

The court stayed the order all the proceedings before the high court and asked the CBI not to arrest Avinash Reddy till April 24 after his counsel stated that the CBI would arrest him if the Telangana HC orders were stayed.

On April 24, the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the matter at 9.30 am. The apex court issued notice to Avinash Reddy asking him to put forward his argument then.

The SC also took exception to the Telagnana High Court’s directions to the CBI on how to progress with the investigation. The HC reportedly asked the CBI to prepare a questionnaire for Avinash Reddy and also take the answers in writing only from him.

The legal fraternity too wondered as to how can the Telangana High Court allow the arrest of Y.S. Bhaskar Reddy, one of the accused in the same crime and also the father of Avinash Reddy, while allowing Avinash Reddy to roam free in the society.

Aggrieved by this orders, Vivekananda’s daughter Sunitha approached the Supreme Court challenging the relief given to her brother and MP Avinash Reddy.

Both Sunitha and Avinash Reddy are cousins of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
