Pic Talk: Karnataka Gets CM Date, Not Name!

Karnataka people gave a strong verdict in favour of the Congress by giving shock to ruling BJP. Beleaguered Congress party got a breather with Karnataka’s verdict which brought back the hopes of the grand old party in Southern India. Amidst all this, all eyes are on who is going to be the CM of Karnataka. Will it be veteran and former CM Siddaramaiah? Or Will it be PCC chief DK Shivakumar?

The Congress party has confirmed the date of the new CM’s oath taking. The oath taking will happen on Thursday i.e 18th May. However, the name of the new Chief Minister is not yet finalized. This is raising a lot of curiosity. Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar are seen as the two main contenders for the chief minister’s post.

Siddaramaiah is not just a veteran politician, but also has a strong hold on the administration and politics. Being a former CM is an advantage for him. Siddaramaiah hails from Kuruba community which is the third largest community in Karnataka with 7 percent population after Lingayath (11 percent) and Vokkaliga (9 percent) communities.

On the other hand, DK Shivakumar is the architect who prepared the Congress for victory. He has been working very hard for the party and played a crucial role in the party’s bounce back. He is the richest politician who is the backbone for funding the Congress party and also considered as the troubleshooter. DK Shivakumar is a close aide of Rahul Gandhi. As Karnataka politics revolve around caste, it is also crucial in deciding the next CM. Shivakumar belongs to the Vokkaliga community which is the second-largest in Karnataka.

As the D-day (18th May, 2023) is fast approaching, Congress party’s top brass is mulling over to finalise the next CM of Karnataka. There are also speculations that Congress may propose 2.5 years and 2.5 years terms each for DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah respectively. Let’s wait and watch.
