Ja’Gun’ At Temple – Publicity Jatara

The decoration at the Gangamma temple in Tirupati evoked criticism by the opposition parties. The flower decoaration at the temple for the jatara reflected English letter ‘J’ followed by the pictorial depiction of a ‘gun’, which when put together make ‘Jagan’, the name of YCP president and Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. Further, the flowers and leaves were also arranged to reflect the YCP flag colours, blue and green.

Tweeting the picture of the decoration, TDP supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu took exception to such decoration at a religious place. “What is the need for the YCP flags at the temple? What connection does the letter ‘J’ have with Gangamma? What is this ‘gun culture’ on the temple premises? Have you gone mad? How can you exhibit your pride before God?,” Naidu tweeted.

The YCP’s craze for publicity has gone to unimaginable peaks. The party leaders leave no opportunity to proclaim their hold at every place in the state, from roads, footpaths to even trees and bushes. Are temples places of publicity? A religious place is meant for worshipping God and paying obeisance to the supreme power. Why should Jagan try to show off his power at such places, asked the TDP leaders.

Temples are places of sanctity and they should be considered sacred. Jagan himself claims that he is ‘devuni bidda’ (God’s child) and that he has the Lord’s blessings. Does he not know that we should bow down humbly before God and count our blessings? Is there a need to display one’s arrogance at the temple, asked the Jana Sena leaders.
