Earlier this month, Telugu Desam chief Chandrababu Naidu met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi. This meeting set off buzz that BJP and Telugu Desam are reuniting but the buzz faded away in no time. Neither Chandrababu held a press meeting regarding the meeting nor BJP explained the details of the meeting.
Reacting to this, AP BJP Somu Veerraju commented in a cryptic manner. “The media and political opponents are making their own assumptions on Naidu and Shah’s meeting. Who said TDP and BJP are reuniting?” questioned Somu Veerraju. He added that nowhere Chandrababu spoke about the meeting.
The twist came with Somu saying that Andhra Pradesh needs a ‘Double-Engine’ government. “I wish AP sees a double-engine government because of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development formula,” said Somu.
So what does Somu’s ‘Double-Engine’ government mean here? Even Somu has knowledge of the factual strength of BJP in Andhra and it needs a miracle for the party to come to power in the state. Despite being in power for the last nine years, BJP could not grow as anticipated in AP and moreover the national leadership doesn’t bother AP and its affairs. Only in the recent past, the PM Modi government has been providing relief by sanctioning grants that were due.
