The Election Commission of India (ECI) confirmed that bogus votes were getting enrolled in Andhra Pradesh.
The ECI’s confirmation comes in response to YCP rebel MP K. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju’s letter, in June this year, complaining that bogus votes were being registered in a large number in the state.
He complained that there were irregularities like enrolling a large number of votes under the same house number and removal of even eligible voters from the lists.
Replying to this complaint, the ECI said that it was taking measures to weed out the bogus votes. It also stated that they had identified 27,13,443 fake votes were registered in the state. Over 2,51,767 votes were enrolled with junk number or zero number as house number.
As many as 1,57,939 cases were found wherein more than 10 persons were enrolled as voters under the same door number. The total number of votes registered under the same door number stands at 24,61,676.
Now, these figures are likely to make the YCP government lose its credibility as both the public and rival political parties might point fingers at the irregularities in the voter enrolment process.
