The CRDA started serving notices to farmers in Amaravati capital region asking them to give back the plots allocated to them as compensation for the land they had parted towards the construction of the capital. The notices also stated they would be given land in alternative places.
Several farmers received the notices on Saturday. However, ahead of the elections, the Amaravati JAC sees a ploy to disintegrate the construction of the capital, behind the move. So, it asked the farmers to refrain from signing on the notices.
Land for the construction of the world-class capital Amaravati was acquired through land pooling. While some farmers gave the land voluntarily, a few others showed disinclination but the government promised to pay them as per the market rate.
Even while a few buildings were being constructed, it was election time and there was a change in the ruling dispensation. The construction of the capital was stalled for the last four years.
Farmers whose lands were not registered began doing rounds of the CRDA urging the authorities to give them back to them since the YCP government assumed power. The farmers complained neither were they able to use the land nor make money by selling them.
The YCP government which had been non-chalant on the issue so far, had suddenly swung into action raising doubts if it has ulterior motives.
The farmers fear that giving back the allocated plots would enable the government to benefit some others who had never been a part of the Amaravati capital project, which in turn would undermine the construction of the capital.
