Finally, Govt Addressed Concerns Of Anganwadi workers

In a significant development on December 21, 2023, the Government of Andhra Pradesh demonstrated its commitment to addressing the concerns of Anganwadi workers and helpers across the state. In response to the pressing issues raised, the government swiftly released over Rs 80 crores to meet immediate demands. The measures taken encompass a comprehensive approach, covering various aspects of support for the Anganwadi centers and their staff.

One of the key initiatives involves the allocation of Rs 66.54 crores for 16,575 rural/tribal and 6,705 urban Anganwadi centers operating in rented buildings. This financial support includes clearing rent arrears up to November 2023, ensuring the operational stability of these essential centers. Additionally, funds amounting to Rs 7.81 crores have been released for the procurement of consumables, addressing the basic needs of the centers. Moreover, Rs 6.36 crores have been disbursed as maintenance funds for 21,206 Anganwadi Centers, providing flexibility for workers to address the specific requirements of each center.

Recognizing the dedication of Anganwadi workers and helpers, the government has introduced several policy changes. The age limit for the promotion of Anganwadi helpers to Anganwadi workers has been raised from 45 to 50 years, fostering career advancement. Furthermore, a retirement bonus has been instituted for senior Anganwadi staff, with workers receiving Rs 1 lakh and helpers Rs 40,000 upon reaching the age of 62. In a move to enhance financial support, Anganwadi workers can now claim TA/DA once a month, while helpers can do so bi-monthly, as outlined in the government order issued on December 20, 2023. These proactive measures underscore the government’s commitment to the welfare and empowerment of Anganwadi workers, reinforcing their crucial role in community development.
