Congress Party is a gone case in Andhra Pradesh as it couldn’t secure even a single MLA or MP seat in the 2014, 19 election. But the party is resilient in gaining back the lost sheen in AP and as per reports, their biggest attempt to make this happen is the introduction of YS Sharmila in AP politics. After a strange stint in Telangana, where Sharmila claimed to be Telangana CM candidate but later opted out without contesting, she looks set for her debut in AP politics.
AP Congress is also reportedly bracing for Sharmila’s entry. According to reports, former Congress MLA Kamalamma suggested APCC high command to make Sharmila contest from the Kadapa MP constituency. This was acknowledged by APCC working president Sunkara Padmasri. Seeing AP Congress working on the constituency that would best suit Sharmila itself gives an indication that Sharmila is bound to enter AP politics, confirming the speculations. And it is well known that Kadapa is a bastion for YS family so Sharmila has her best shot here.
Congress’s aim with this introduction of Sharmila could be to get back at least a section of the YS vote bank from YCP and also the Congress cadre that diverted to other parties due to lack of leadership in AP Congress. Sharmila is being seen as the only star leader who can bring back the good old days for Congress in AP. There is also a chance for former Congress leaders who are vexed with Jagan in YCP could move back to Congress in Sharmila’s leadership.
