Sankranthi and Pongal(for the Tamil community) are culturally significant festivals for the South Indian community. On the occasion, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi celebrated Pongal in a traditional manner in New Delhi.
Modi’s official Instagram handle posted the video of the prime minister celebrating Pongal, dressed up in traditional vesti and having some gala time watching the special programs that were set up to entertain the crowds. Telangana governor Tamilisai also took part in the celebrations along with Modi.
“A special Pongal celebration in Delhi…” the video is captioned and it has over 2.1 million likes.
Modi commented that the intention behind the celebration is to promote “Many cultures, One Bharat” slogan.
