For the unversed, JSP is not yet a recognized party in the Telugu states. So it has no dedicated election symbol as such and the decision of whether or not the party will get the “glass” symbol is at the discretion of the Central Election Commission.
In a major relief to JSP before the Andhra Pradesh election, the CEC has confirmed that the ‘glass’ symbol has been allocated for the Pawan Kalyan-led party. JSP confirmed through a social media post that the party has been given the glass symbol by the EC.
JSP candidates can now contest on glass symbol in the AP elections. This is a relief for the party as had EC given any other symbol, it could have led to huge confusion. Taking a new symbol into the public in less than three months after contesting on glass symbol in the 2019 AP elections and also in the recent Telangana election would have been a daunting task for JSP. But there is no such task at hand for the party now.
It is known that a party should get at least 6% vote share and win at least MLA seats in a state election. JSP got over 6% vote share in 2019 but won just a single MLA seat, so it is not yet recognized by the EC. JSP is looking to change this scenario in 2024 in partnership with TDP.
