Putting an end to the long-standing suspense, Chandrababu has finally clarified to his party leadership that Telugu Desam will not contest in the Rajya Sabha elections which are being held this month.
Chandrababu chaired an important meeting with Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, Nimmala Rama Naidu, Gottipati Ravikumar, and other TDP seniors today. When they brought up the Rajya Sabha nomination and elections, Naidu reportedly clarified that the party is not partaking in the RS elections.
The TDP boss mentioned that the only focus for the party think tank at the moment is on the assembly elections and affirmed that there is no time for deviations at this crucial hour. He left no room for further discussion as it was conclusively communicated to the party leadership that TDP is not partaking in the RS elections.
On the primary count, TDP has 22 MLAs on its side. The minimum number of MLAs needed to win a Rajya Sabha nomination is 44. So participating in the Rajya Sabha election would have been a waste of time and resources. Nadu, being the veteran that he is, contemplated the decision for a few days and decided against contesting these at-present insignificant election.
About the assembly elections, Naidu said it is not possible to invite all of YCP’s defiant leaders into the party and only certain individuals will be acknowledged based on merit. The senior politician set the priorities straight as he reinstated that the only aim for the party is to come to power in 2024 along with the allies.
