KCR Rejects MP Ticket For Kavitha? Here’s Why

The coming parliamentary elections in Telangana are significantly important for BRS after the party faced a setback in the recent assembly elections. The groundwork for the Lok Sabha elections is being prepared by KCR as there are only a few weeks to go before the polls.

One significant change that KCR has brought into the BRS ecosystem after the assembly elections is reportedly the decision to shred off the “Family rule” tag. To establish this, KCR has gone to the extent where he has turned down the MP ticket for his own daughter Kavitha.

After Kavitha unsuccessfully contested as Nizamabad MP in 2019 and lost to D Aravind, political sources hinted that she will be moving to BRS’s conventional stronghold of Medak and contest as an MP in the Lok Sabha polls.

But in the aftermath of the defeat in the assembly elections, KCR has decided to bring personnel changes in the BRS ecosystem. He believes that the opposition parties’ allegations about KCR’s “family rule” had an impact on the polls. KCR himself being the CM, while KTR and Harish Rao serving as MLAs and then, Kavitha contesting as MP despite the weak chances gave BRS a family party image.

In an attempt to shred off the family party image, KCR has reportedly decided not to let Kavitha contest in the Lok Sabha elections. Considering the need to have KTR and Harish Rao fighting the battle on his behalf in the assembly against Revanth Reddy, KCR has reportedly decided not to let these two contest in the MP polls either, contrary to recent rumors that they might contest in the Lok Sabha elections.

KCR intends to work on the mistakes that he made over the last 10 years that accumulated to his party’s defeat in 2023 and rectify them, starting with the assertive decision of not giving the MP ticket to his daughter Kavitha. She could instead be given an internal post in the party. But this is a political hearsay for the time being and it remains to be seen if KCR will really walk the talk.
