Amaravati Mahila Aikya Karyacharana Samiti leaders said their confidence that Amaravati would remain to the lone capital of Andhra Pradesh had increased after they spoke to Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who is touring in Vijayawada on Wednesday. Sitharaman enquired about the woes of the farmers who parted with their lands for the capital and interacted with them for quite some time this morning.
The women leaders submitted a memorandum to her urging the Union Minister to ensure that the BJP takes a decision in favour of Amaravati. “We spoke to Nirmala Sitharaman and she reminded that the BJP had passed a resolution regarding Amaravati in the past itself. It is only Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy who is hell bent on splitting the capital for his vested interests. We urged her to ensure that the central government takes a favourable decision and she reacted in a positive manner,” the women leaders said.
The women leaders also said that they had conveyed it to the Union finance minister that the
5-crore people in Andhra Pradesh were also wanting Amaravati to be the only capital for the state as it would ensure production, employment and development in the coming days.
The farmers in the capital region have been on the warpath since Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy put forward the proposal of trifurcation of the capital, with Amaravati as Legislative Capital, Vizag as Executive Capital and Kurnool as Judiciary Capital, in last December.
It has been more than 280 days since the farmers have been protesting against the shifting of the capital to Vizag.
