For the last few days, Andhra Pradesh politics have been revolving around the volunteer system. After the EC barred the usage of volunteers for cash disbursement programs, including the pension scheme, YCP leaders alleged that TDP is behind this and spread a negative propaganda against the yellow party. In response, TDP cadres said YCP is playing ugly tactics by intentionally snubbing volunteers to make the public suffer by coming to the secretariat to collect the pension money and in turn pushing the blame on TDP.
Amid all the high drama, Telugu Desam Party president Chandrababu Naidu has delivered some Ugadi good news to AP volunteers as he announced an increased incentive of Rs 10,000 per month for volunteers if the TDP+ alliance comes to power.
Political analysts are commenting that this is a very effective way to attract the volunteer ecosystem. The incumbent YCP government had been paying Rs 5750 as salary to volunteers and Naidu has promised to nearly double the salary if he becomes the CM. But would that be enough to attract the volunteer system that was brought to effect by Jagan himself in the first place?
Naidu already remarked that he is not against the volunteer system, but is against YCP’s plan to misuse this system. He has now delivered a sucker punch to YCP by promising to hike the salaries of volunteers to Rs 10,000 per month.
