Can’t Hold Local Polls Now: AP IT Min

A lot is happening around the local body elections in AP. The other day AP State Election Commissioner (APSEC) Nimmagadda Ramesh filed a writ petition in AP High Court that the YCP government is not providing sufficient funds and also not coordinating to hold the elections.

Reacting to the writ petition, the High Court suggested the AP government to work in mutual cooperation with AP Election Commission. But the YCP government is in absolute silence and no big leader commented on Nimmagadda’s petition so far.

But what is the YCP government thinking about the elections? Does it have the intentions to hold the polls now? AP IT minister Goutham Reddy made key comments regarding these questions.

“The Covid-19 wave has slowed down a bit now but there are high chances of second wave. Any pandemic would have its impact in three phases. Probably after the festival season is over, the second wave might hit us may be in November or December. So our government will take a call on the local body elections only after considering the Covid-19 situation in the state. At present the state government may not hold the polls,” said Goutham Reddy.

When asked about Bihar going for the elections, Reddy replied that those are Assembly elections and are inevitable. Local polls have the feasibility to be pushed.
