The PDS rice smuggling operation that has been going on as an undercurrent in Andhra Pradesh got blown out after deputy CM Pawan Kalyan’s recent inspection at the Kakinada Port. Upon the insistence of the deputy CM and adequate supervision of CM Chandrababu, the government is coming down heavily on this rice smuggling operation.
As per the latest news, a police case has been filed against former minister Perni Nani’s wife Jayasudha regarding this smuggling operation. The case has been filed by Civil Supplies Corporation assistant manager Krishna Reddy at Machilipatnam police station.
Going into the story, Reportedly Perni Nani had earlier constructed a godown in Potlapalem, Machilipatnam. This facility was rented out to the AP Civil Supplies Department during the YCP tenure and it served as a godown to store the government ration supplies.
However, in a regulatory yearly inspection that was conducted by the Civil Supplies department, it was unearthed that 185 tonnes of PDS rice has gone missing at this godown. There is no track of this missing rice which is extremely suspicious and this has now led to legal action.
As a first step, a police case has been filed against the owner of the godown Jayasudha and the facility manager Teja.
When questioned on this matter, Perni Nani gave an evasive answer as he said the weigh-bridge isn’t functioning properly. But this has amused everyone as people are questioning how faulty the machine must be to show a difference of 185 tonnes of rice.
Shortly after Jayasudha wrote a letter to the AP government, saying they are ready to pay the compensation amount for the missing rice. This is giving raise to more suspicions on the disappearance of such massive quantities of rice.
This adds weight to the allegations that certain YCP leaders might be involved in a rice smuggling operation where they siphon off the ration rice here and sell the same in African countries for a much higher price.
