The battle between the Enforcement Directorate and Arvind Kejriwal took a new turn today. The Ministry of Home Affairs allowed the prosecution of Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal today. This is related to the money laundering case linked to the old Delhi excise policy.
Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena has already allowed the prosecution of former Delhi CM, and the Home Ministry gave its approval. With this nod from the Home Ministry today, the ED will be pressing charges against the former Delhi CM and his deputy.
Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections on February 5, this will be considered a huge setback for the AAP. The AAP leaders are betting high on the sentiment that the center arrested Kejriwal unlawfully, but once the charges are framed, the trial will begin.
Supreme Court passed a verdict in November last year that the Enforcement Directorate must obtain prior sanction before prosecuting public servants. Hence, they have now obtained the approval from the Home Ministry.
