The Union Cabinet led by NDA government under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened on Thursday morning to take some key decisions over its policies in the coming days. During this meeting, the cabinet has reportedly approved two major plans which have now grabbed the headlines all over the media.
In a major boost to Indian Space Research Organisation, the cabinet has decided to infuse Rs 3900 Crores to establish the third launch pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota of Andhra Pradesh. The aim is to provide launch infrastructure for Isro’s next generation launch vehicles (NGLV) and serve as a backup for the second launch pad during desperate times.
The move will enhance India’s capability to support future human spaceflight missions which will consolidate the country’s space exploration potential. The construction of this third launch pad is proposed to be completed in four years.
In what can be a heartwarming news to more than one crore central government employees and pensioners, the Union Cabinet has decided to set up a committee for formation of 8th pay commission for revision of salaries and pensions with effect from January 1st 2026. The government will constitute a board with a chairman and two members to formulate the salary structure for all pay scales of employees who are serving and retired from different departments of the centre.
The existing pay commission was formed by the Congress government in 2014 and it came into force in 2016 from January 1st. The revision of pay is due from 2026 for all employees. All allowances and other perks would be revised by the government based on the recommendations of the committee.
