One of the biggest reasons why Telugu Desam Party emerged as a strong regional outfit over the years irrespective of election results is because of the fact that it was never inclined to a single caste or community. Both NTR and Chandrababu Naidu balanced the caste equations very well from the very beginning and gave equal priority to all castes.
Traditionally, voters from the Arya Vaishya community supported the Telugu Desam Party in all elections. They constitute a sizable population in Andhra Pradesh and are considered as the backbone of TDP due to their strong financial roots. Even in the 2024 elections, they stood by Chandrababu Naidu.
On Friday, Naidu’s government sponsored the grand anniversary ritual of self-sacrifice of goddess Vasavi Kanayaka Parameswari, who is considered as the household deity of Vaishyas. Chief Minister Naidu attended the event in Penugonda mandal of West Godavari district and offered silk robes to the deity on behalf of the government.
On this occasion, he announced a corporation will be set up to promote welfare of the Arya Vaishya community. They will be given financial assistance to graduate from small businesses to big units, he said. He also vowed to develop Penugonda as a pilgrimage centre.
The manner in which the NDA government came forward to celebrate this festival on a grand note and Naidu’s decision to assist their businesses through a dedicated and state sponsored corporation cheered the Arya Vaishya community.
