The United States has deported 119 Indian immigrants, who arrived at Amritsar International Airport late on Saturday night. This marks the second batch of deportees in just 10 days, following the first flight on February 5, which carried 104 Indians.
This move is part of the Donald Trump administration’s strict crackdown on illegal immigration. The latest group of deportees was flown in on a C-17 Globemaster aircraft of the US Air Force, which landed in Amritsar at 11:40 PM.
The 119 deported individuals belong to various states across India. The highest number of deportees are from Punjab, with 67 individuals returning home. Haryana follows next with 33 deportees. From Gujarat, a total of 8 individuals have been sent back, while Uttar Pradesh has 3 deportees in this batch.
Additionally, Goa, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan each have 2 deportees, whereas Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir have 1 each.
Many of their families had gathered at Amritsar airport to receive their loved ones.
A third US military plane, carrying 157 more Indian deportees, is expected to land in India on Sunday. With these back-to-back deportations, the US is tightening its grip on illegal immigration, raising concerns among Indian communities abroad.
The Indian government is in touch with US authorities regarding the treatment of deportees. With more flights expected, will this crackdown continue? Let’s wait and see.
