Group 2 Exam Fiasco: Who Is The Real Culprit?

The Group 2 exam issue has become a talking point in Andhra Pradesh after confusion arose about the government’s delay in finalizing the exam date. However, the issue originally started due to mistakes in the 2023 notification issued by the Jagan government.

Just before the election in 2023, the Jagan government announced 899 Group 2 posts, but many job aspirants allege that the roster points were marked incorrectly. They released the notification before the elections, not to provide jobs, but to attract young voters. Subsequently, many candidates went to court, claiming that the reservations were not calculated properly.

After the prelims, 92,250 candidates qualified for the mains exam. However, after complaints about the roster marking, the High Court reviewed the case and ordered that the mains exam must be conducted on February 23, 2025.

Following the onset of the new NDA government, Chandrababu’s administration wrote a letter to the APPSC, requesting the exam to be canceled, as students were confused and worried. However, the APPSC stated that the MLC election code was in effect, so the exam could not be postponed or canceled (the cancellation of the exam might benefit the ruling party, allege opposition candidates).

Amidst all the controversy and public outrage, YSRCP leaders, who might have wanted to capitalize on this situation, have not spoken about the issue. The reason being that the problem started during their rule, so they are avoiding the topic.

Now, the High Court has ruled that the exam must go ahead and that the government cannot interfere in APPSC decisions. As a result, the exam was held today, and students attended it with dissatisfaction.

This issue was created by the Jagan government in 2023, and the current government is unable to change anything due to legal and election rules. Students and leaders are facing difficulties because of past mistakes committed by the Jagan government, which was desperate to hold the exam at the last minute to attract youth votes.
