The Only Cadre That Can Question High Command!

There is no debating the fact that the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has the strongest and most legacy-based cadre in Andhra Pradesh. This is why the party remains relevant in the state, even after four decades, despite facing numerous challenges. When the party faces severe crises, the cadre has stood behind Chandrababu Naidu, even overlooking the party’s founder, N.T. Rama Rao (NTR). This speaks to the importance the cadre places on the party.

It is also evident that only the Telugu Desam Party has a system that allows its cadres to question every move of the hierarchy and raise their voices against questionable decisions. Of course, Congress claims to have internal democracy at the leader level, but not at the cadre level.

This was again highlighted in the ongoing fiasco regarding the resignation of G.V. Reddy, who served as the Fibernet Chairman until yesterday. After he resigned due to non-compliance by the IAS officer in his department and the subsequent lack of corrective measures from the Chief Minister, the cadre has made its voice heard.

The strong opinion from the cadres, expressed on social media, is that Chandrababu Naidu must set aside his “bureaucracy-first” approach and start valuing the hardworking cadre and local leadership. Going by the social media wave, it is clear that TDP cadres and supporters are at odds with the top leadership, as they are showing solidarity with G.V. Reddy in this matter.

Such situations are typically seen only in the case of the Telugu Desam Party, as this is the only ecosystem that enables its members to express strong opinions, even in the most challenging situations.

On the other hand, we have the YSR Congress ecosystem, which is so one-dimensional that hardly anyone questions Jagan Mohan Reddy, even when his number two, Vijay Sai Reddy, left the party. There was absolutely no strong reaction from supporters, even when such a significant event occurred. Similarly, Janasena is still in the early stages of building a strong cadre and transforming its young, energetic fans into loyal party members in the long run.

But in the Telugu Desam Party, the supporters and cadres are so active and vocal that they are even questioning Chandrababu Naidu and his top leadership when a common worker like G.V. Reddy quits the party. This sense of ownership and fighting spirit, which is lacking in other parties, is what sets the Telugu Desam Party ahead of the rest, day in and day out.
